Biography

Franz Policardi received his B.Sc. in Music from the Music Conservatory of Trieste in 1983. In 1990 he specialized in music recording technology in Milano and since then he worked as sound engineer for the European recording industry collaborating with the best known world companies. He published more than 100 CDs and stayed behind some world renown musical events as for example as sound engineer for the Pavarotti&friends 2004 in Modena for 560.000.000 viewers/listeners and as invited sound consultant at the Vienna New Year’s concert 2000/2001 for 1.480.000.000 viewers/listeners. First in Italy, in 2005 he received an M.Sc. degree in Music technology from Music Conservatory of Adria with a thesis on sound recording techniques in enclosed space valued 110/110 Cum Laude and just one month afterwards was asked to became professor for sound recording. First in Italy, he continued his studies at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Bologna, where he received a Ph.D. degree in Applied Physics in Industrial Engineering in 2010, defending a controversial thesis in binaural room acoustics supported by Neumann G.m.b.h. Berlin and dr. Henning Wilkens from IRT München, applying its real industrial experience. Since 2008 he collaborates with the Faculty of Electrotechnical Engineering of the University of Ljubljana in the fields of acoustics and electro-acoustics. He was heavily engaged in teaching process at the Multimedia Communications program of the Faculty of Electrotechnical Engineering of the University of Ljubljana, which took place in Vrtojba near Nova Gorica. In this period, he has organized 7 international seminars named New Approaches in Acoustics and Sound (NAAS) in collaboration with his colleague dr. Urban Burnik. Since 2013 he organizes and chairs the section Acoustics and Electroacoustics at the annual Electrotechnical and Computer conference ERK in Portorož.

Research interests

His research interests include room acoustics, PA acoustics, analog and digital sound signal processing problems, psychoacoustics, bio-acoustics and chemistry. In 2012 he was elected Senior Lecturer of the Faculty of Electrical engineering of the University of Ljubljana, where he is now collaborating in the Multimedia study programme.
