Biography

Marko  received BSc and  PhD degrees from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Extended biography

Marko Meža was born in Slovenj Gradec, Slovenia, in 1977. He studied at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Ljubljana where he received a BSc degree in 2001 in Electrical Engineering at the Telecommunications Department of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. For his work on Automatic intepretation for pre-transfusion test results on gel card images under supervision of prof. dr Jurij Tasič he received a PhD from same institution in 2007.

He has been employed at Faculty of Electrical Engineering first as a junior researcher, then as a research scientist. Currently, he is employed as teaching assistant, holding several courses. He also mentors students for their final thesis.

He was active on several national and international projects.

  • During his work on national projects he developed a telemedical system for national blood transfusion service. The system was put into Slovenian blood transfusion practice in all national transfusion wards. His work included development of required hardware and software components a well as integration of the system into existing blood transfusion practice.

  • He developed an algorithm for measurement of Ankle Brachial index – which was used in commercially successful medical device.
  • He was one of key developers for an Audio CMS system used in Slovenian courts. The system was installed into  several hundred court rooms.
  • He was appointed as work-group leader in CRP SUMOFIN: Measuring the national health service financing model efficiency.

  • He is a part of a team competing on  prestigious QUALCOM Tricorder Xprize competition. The team managed it into the finals.

In his spare time he is a scuba diver (SSI Master diver), mountain orientation instructor, hiking guide (PZS category A ). Until recently was a singer in faculty’s choir. He is also a father of two daughters.
